Uche Mefor, on behalf of the Igbo Nationalists and Igbo Nationality Movement, send a congratulatory message to Chief Iwuanyawu on his ascendancy as the president-general Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo, with the expectation that he would commit to the Igbo self-determination agenda. The statement reads:

 Dear Chief Iwuanyawu,

Congratulations
on your unanimous election as the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndi-Igbo. Your leadership qualities, dedication, and hard work towards the advancement of the Igbo people have earned you this position.
We commend Ohanaeze Ndi-Igbo for confirming their unwavering commitment to the economic, social and political future of the Igbo nation, especially in their demand for additional state in the Southeast region to bring it at par with other regions in the Nigerian federation. We also commend the organization for standing up against the gang-up and political exclusion of Ndi-Igbo. It is indeed time for the Igbo nation to produce the next president of Nigeria, and any position offered to the Igbos short of the office of the president must be rejected.
We support the call for greater autonomy for the Southeast region and urge the state assemblies to pass a co-ordinated bill towards achieving this objective. The revival of the Ohanaeze Oputa Panel petition is long overdue and must be made a living document for justice and the emancipation of the Igbo nation.
As you take on this new role, we encourage you and the elected representatives from the Southeast region to begin discussions on the future of the Igbo people with Nigeria. It is either that the Igbos are equal partners in the Nigerian state with greater autonomy or outright independence without Nigeria.
Once again,
congratulations
on your election and please accept our best wishes for success in all your endeavours.
Sincerely,
Uche Okafor-Mefor
Convenor,
Igbo Biafra Nationalists and the Igbo Nationality Movement
